MUSiC PROJECT

Genre - Alternative Rock

Alternative Rock, also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative, is a descendant of punk rock in the early 1980s and became popular in the 1990s. The term "alternative" was used to describe punk rock band that did not fit in the mainstream music during the time. Alternative bands were rejected from the popular commercialism, and played their music in small pub or aired through college radio, which is why it used to be called College Rock. Big commercial stations ignored the new genre and only aired it late at night, but gradually began to play Alternative Rock, paved way to the modern rock radio format. Alternative rock became popular in the 90's with the surgance of bands like Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Bush and Pearl Jam. Alternative rock consisted of many subgenres influenced by folk music, reggae, electronic music, and jazz.

The cover song that we did is called " Let The Flames Begin" by Paramore. Did song was really fun but kind of hard to play because it was our first time playing intruments. But we all tried our best. :]

BOOk REPORT: DYiNG TO CROSS: THE WORST iMMiGRANT TRADEGY iN HiSTORY

This book is based on a true story of the most shocking immigration tragedy to have occured in the U.S. Many undocumented immigrants died in a truck in a one single incident. On May of 2003, nineteen people dided of asphyxition, dehydration, and heat exposure by being trapped inside a trailer truck. Among the dead was a 5 year old. The victims were trapped and were unable to open the door. Inside the trailer were at least seventy three unocumented immigrants who had crossed the Mexican border hoping of making their way to the U.S., to search for work and a better life. They had to pay money to the "coyotes", the person that helps the undocumented people across the border, but not all of them pay the same amount. This trip to the undocumented immigrants was the worst trip of their lives.

This book is significant because it talks about a true story that was really sad and just couldn't imagine all the people suffocating inside the truck. I was amazed by this book and how many undocumented immigrants each day suffer for crossing over the border. Many die by thirst and hunger and maybe also by getting shot from the police border.

2008 Could Set Records for Tornado Deaths

Parkersburg, Iowa, is mourning its dead and cleaning up the colossal mess left by a powerful tornado that tore through the town on Sunday night. The tornado killed four people in Parkersburg and two in nearby New Hartford that night; another victim died Monday from tornado-related injuries, according to local media. The victims are among at least 110 people killed in the United States by tornadoes this year, putting 2008 on track to be one of the deadliest years in recent history. The average for recent years is 62 tornado fatalities for an entire year. This year's death toll is already the highest since 1998, with seven months left in the year. Among the victims: a mother who died huddled over her 4-year-old son, protecting him from a tornado in Picher, Oklahoma, the night before Mother's Day; a teenage girl killed when a tree fell on her home in Siloam, Arkansas, as she slept on May 2; and a 2-year-old in Hugo, Minnesota who died Sunday after a tornado hit his home.

This article is important because many tornadoes have been happening this year and by them there have been many deaths. Maybe some people have families there that might be worried about their them that they should notice them that they should be more careful and prepared for the tornadoes. The states hit with the tornadoes should move state or just be prepared so that they an be safe from the tornadoes.

j0URNAL: Classrooms Have Become Unnecessarily High Tech

My opinion about this article is that for a good education we need technology which are computers. Without technology school will be boring and we wouldn't have good research for projects and assignments. We would have textbooks which are boring and it is not as fast as technology. That's why I think technology helps us allot in school and also laptops don't take a lot of space like textbooks do. When I first came to this school i noticed everything was technology and it had laptops in every class. In middle school and elementary, we didn't have any computers just textbooks. I hate textbooks because it takes a long time reading and the Internet is much faster. I am glad we have technology because without it I don't think we would have a good education.

ANGRY FLiGHT ATTENDANT CHARGED WiTH SETTiNG FiRE ON PLANE

FARGO, North Dakota - A flight attendant angry about his work route smuggled a lighter aboard an airplane and set a fire in a bathroom, forcing an emergency landing, authorities said Thursday. The Compass Airlines flight carrying 72 passengers and four crew members landed safely in Fargo on May 7 after smoke filled the back. No injuries were reported. The plane was flying from Minneapolis to Regina, Saskatchewan, authorities said. Eder Rojas, 19, appeared in court Thursday, following his arrest a day earlier in Minneapolis, and was ordered held without bail, prosecutors said. The charge of setting fire aboard a civil aircraft carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

This significance about this article is that a young man lit afir in an airplane because he was mad, but the fire could of gotten worse and cause a huge fire. I think now the security in the airports are going to be more strict because of what just happened in the bathroom airplane. Maybe they wont allow lighters anymore inside an airplane.

B00k REP0RT

The book that I chose is "Perfect You" by Elizabeth Scott as you can see on the left. I chose this book because it caught my attention and its my firts time reading this author. The book was about a girl named Kate Brown's and in the book her life had gone really miserable. She had to work with her father at a mall selling vitamins because her dad quit his job. Her bestfriend Anna became popular and forgot about Kate like if she was invisible. So Anna doesn't want to be friends with Kate anymore. She meets a guy called Will and she falls in love with him and goes really crazy. But she cant stand him and she thinks he is gorgeous. Kate is being hurt with some problem and she thinks that she can stop the hurt by ignoring and stop caring things in life. But what she doesnt realize is that while life is not perfect, many good things can happen.
I enjoyed reading this book because some situations that happened to Kate has happened to me in real life so I agreed with the book and enjoyed it. I would like to read more books from Elizabeth Scott. :] Like for example Bloom. That might be my next bok report.

TEENS AT RANCH SAiD ANY AGE Ok TO MARRy

In San Angelo, Texas A child protection supervisor testified Thursday that she encountered several pregnant teen girls at a polygamist ranch who called each other "sister wives" and who believed it was acceptable to be "spiritually united" with a man at any age. "It was the belief that no age was too young to be married," said Angie Voss, a supervisor for investigation at Texas Child Protective Services. The ranch is owned by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a Mormon offshoot that practices polygamy.

My opinion about this article is that I disagree with teens getting maried at any age. Because then many young girls are going to get pregnant and have a harsh life just taking care of kids. They should instead go to school and focus on theor school work so they can get a good career in college. But its their decision not mine. The ten girls are ruininf their lives.

SUSPECTS iN ViDEO BEATiNG C0ULD GET LiFE iN PRiSON

Eight Florida Teenagers, six of them girls, will be tried as adults and could be sentenced to life in prison for their alleged roles in the videotaped beating of another teen. The suspects, who range in age 14 to 18, all face charges of kidnapping ,which is a first degree of felony. Everyone invovled in the case was under a gag order imposed by a judge. The video shows a brutal scene: The 16-year-old victim is punched, kneed and slapped by other girls. She huddles in the fetal position, or stands and screams at her attackers, but the assault continues. Authorities say the eight teens said they were retaliating for insults posted on the Internet by the attack victim. The idea of girls administering a vicious beating so they can post the video online may seem shocking, but it's becoming an increasingly common scenario, according to experts and news reports.

My opinion about this article is that the girls are really dumb to record a video with violence and putting it on you tube. Many people around the world are seeing videos on you tube and if they see this one many people might copy them or even do something worse.

HUNdREd M0URN SLAiN UNC STUdENT; C0PS SEARCH F0R KiLLER

Hundreds of students from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill gathered Thursday to remember student body president, Eve Carson, who was shot and killed early Wednesday morning in a suburban neighborhood near campus. The Chapel Hill Police Department confirmed earlier Thursday that Carson, 22, had been shot and killed. Officers responding to a report of gunshots around 5 a.m. Wednesday, in a neighborhood about a mile from campus, found her body lying in an intersection, police said. "The death of any parent's child or any student is a tragedy, but this is a tragedy magnified and multiplied by the number and depths of the relationships, meaningful relationships, that Eve Carson had on this campus," he said.

My opinion about this article is that there has been many killed collegues. Not many colleges are safe anymore because many people have been getting killed so no college is safe anymore. In any college right now there can be another killer and can cause many deaths like the one in Virginia Tech. These kilings should stop or else no one would want to go to college anymore I guess. There should be more safety in all the colleges and universities so these issues wont happen again.

WHAT iS ART?

Art to me means something that is painted, drawn, or a sculpture. But art can be anything. It can be different kind sof paintings, scuptures made out of marble, and drawings on paper. But it can also be an expression from a person and of thier culture. Art to me means many things but it is very difficult to explain. One of my favorite art museums is the Getty Museum. Graffiti is an art because its a huge drawing made from a persons feeling and its an amaing image that is found anywhere on the streets.

Amtrak to Beef up security

In Washington, Amtrak passengers will be subjected to random screening of their carry-on bags as part of a new security initiative that will include armed officers and bomb-sniffing dogs patrolling platforms and trains, an Amtrak spokeswoman said Monday. In 2004, bombings of commuter trains in Madrid, Spain, killed 191 people. A series of bombings in London in 2005, most of them on subway trains, killed 52 people. And security experts have long pointed out the vulnerabilities associated with rail travel and the difficulty in securing trains. Amtrak plans to roll out the new "mobile security teams" on the Northeast Corridor between Washington and Boston, Massachusetts, its most heavily used route, before expanding them throughout the country.

My opinion for this article is that I think its a good idea that their being more strict with the security. Now that Amtrak will be safer and more secure for the people on the train.

Natoin's "Icebox" hits record 40 below 0

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota (AP) -- The temperature in International Falls, Minnesota, fell to a record 40 below zero Monday, just a few days after the northern Minnesota town won a federal trademark making it officially the "Icebox of the Nation."

"This is about as cold as it gets, this is bad. There's no wind -- it's just cold," said McDougall, 48, a worker at The Fisherman, a convenience store and gas station in the town on the Canadian border. "People just don't go out, unless you have to go to work."

I can already imagine all the people suffering of coldness. I wouldn't want to live in that kind of area that is really cold and I think I would've even survived. Many people could get sick and even not breath the cold air.

Mom goes on trial in baby's microwave death

In Dayton. Ohio a lady named China Arold who is 27 year old and is facing death penalty for killing her 1 month daughter in a microwave oven in 2005. Today Monday 28, 2008 was her trial on the case. Her attorney's argue that she didn't have to do nothing in the death of her daughter. Coroner's official said the baby suffered high-heat internal injuries and had no external burns.

My opinion about this article is that I'm not sure if she really killed her daughter but the aticle says that she was drunk and drank a lot of rum so that is telling me that she might have done it since she was drunk.

Parents crashing online party

Summary:

In Chicago, Illinois an 18 year old guy named Scott Seigal is uncomfortable with his parents and grandparents talking to him from myspace. He is not use to talking on the phone so he is rather talking on the internet. But him and other teenagers feel uncomfortable because the technology is a teenagers favorite place to be.

My opinion is that the elder people should have the freedom to do whatever they want but I would also feel uncomfortable because my parents will always be talking to me and just be very protective. So I suggest them to just talk to their friends. :]

"Why We Fight" Reflection

This movie was very long and had many information. It was really interesting and made me think of different things that is happening in the world. But it was basically about war and how many people dont even know why we are fighting. The movie showed many images of the war in Iraq and of how many people that have been affected by the war.
